Who are classes suitable for?
The 10 week Art Course is an adults only class for people of all abilities from absolute beginners to those with some experience with art.
You’ll learn the basic fundamentals, starting with how to how your pencil and explore its potential. Classes are conducted in person, in a group setting with students who are keen to learn, meet new people, and enjoy the relaxing process of art-making.
I am an absolute beginner. What can I expect?
As a beginner you will be taught the basic fundamentals of art that will give you the essential skills and confidence to tackle the projects.
Our students have a wide range of ability and our projects are carefully designed to help each student expand their skills and grow as an artist. Your tutor will get to know you and what your goals are allowing them to give you personal tuition to help you achieve them.
What will I learn?
You’ll begin by focusing on foundational skills in drawing and painting, allowing us to gauge skill levels.
Our teaching approach is flexible, offering personalised one-on-one guidance to help students progress at their own pace.
Throughout the course, you’ll have the opportunity to work with various media such as pencil, charcoal, watercolour, and acrylics. We’ll show you how to properly use each tool and introduce techniques to create different effects.
Additional materials like soft pastels, gouache, coloured pencils, watercolour pencils, ink, and more may also be introduced, depending on the term.
What does a typical lesson involve?
Each 3-hour lesson starts with a live demonstration of the project you’ll be working on.
After that, you’ll receive plenty of individual support, with us offering feedback and guidance to refine your artwork.
You’ll also be provided with detailed handouts, step-by-step instructions, and additional resources to help you during the lesson.
There’s a short break midway through for complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits, giving you a chance to relax, chat with your classmates, and return to your artwork with a fresh perspective.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
We record all demonstrations so that you can catch up if you miss a lesson due to holidays, appointments or being unwell.
These recordings, along with class materials, can be revisited any time, helping you stay on track.
However, since the course fee reserves your spot, we are unable to offer refunds or drop-in sessions for any missed classes.
Do I need to bring my own materials?
We provide all necessary paints, brushes, and tools in class, so you don’t need to worry about bringing your own. Everything will be ready for you when you arrive.
The only things you’ll need are a sketchbook, paper, and pencils; these aren’t included in the course fee. If you don’t already have these, we offer a Student Art Bag for £25, which includes a sketchbook, pencils, specialist paper, and other essentials.
We also recommend wearing old clothes during painting sessions or bringing an apron. Most students store these items in their Art Bag for convenience.
What's included in the Student Art Bag?
The student Art Bag includes:
- High-quality A4 Sketchbook containing nice, thick paper of 220gsm, suitable for all media, including watercolour,
- Pencil case containing, 3 pencils – HB, 4B, 8B, an eraser, a sharpener and ruler (Yep, we sometimes use rulers in art)
- A3 specialist paper for each of the projects in the course.
- All contained within a polyholdall case for transporting to and from class.
If you already own similar items but still need the specialist paper, we also offer A3 Paper Pack for £13. Your preferred choice can be added at checkout when booking your course
Why isn't the Student Art Bag included in the course fee?
We understand that some students may already have their own paper and pencils at home, so to keep costs flexible and affordable, we haven’t included these items in the course fee.
For materials like paints, brushes, and other tools, we provide them in class to ensure everyone uses the same high-quality supplies demonstrated by the tutor.
This consistency helps with technique, colour mixing, and overall results.
